What To Do When Things Aren’t Quite Working

October 16, 2023

< back to PODCAST home

We’re going to delve into a crucial topic today: what to do when things in your life, whether it’s in business, your career, or personal life, don’t seem to be working the way you want them to. We’re not talking about just having a bad day, but rather when a pattern of difficulty emerges. We’ll explore the importance of hitting the pause button, seeking guidance, and making necessary changes to find your desired flow.

Recognizing the Need for Change

In life, we often face challenging times that require us to push through and persevere. However, there are moments when we need to recognize that something isn’t right. It’s more than a bad day; it’s a pattern that calls for action. It’s essential to recognize this and take steps to address it.

Small Adjustments Can Make a Big Difference

Sometimes, the solution to your challenges may be as simple as making small adjustments. Just like going to a chiropractor for a realignment can make everything work smoother, tiny changes can lead to significant improvements in your life. It’s important not to overlook the potential impact of these minor tweaks.

The Danger of Focusing Only on Tactical Changes

While small adjustments can be beneficial, focusing solely on tactical changes may not always address the root of the problem. Sometimes, the situation requires a more dramatic shift. Recognizing when to make a substantial change is crucial, as it can be the key to solving long-standing issues.

The Importance of the Moment of Reckoning

No matter which path you choose when faced with challenges, it should begin with a moment of reckoning. This is the time to pause, step back, and thoughtfully evaluate your circumstances. Seek objective perspectives from trusted individuals and be honest about your feelings and desires. A moment of reckoning can pave the way for better outcomes.

A Personal Example: Navigating Challenges during Pregnancy

In my own life and legal career, I’ve had my share of reckoning moments. Let me share a personal example. During my pregnancy, I faced multiple challenges. The world was in turmoil, I moved to a new state, and I experienced debilitating physical symptoms. These issues made me reevaluate my priorities and make significant changes, including saying no to certain commitments.

Reflecting on Life-Altering Changes

While my experience was a dramatic example, life-altering changes can manifest in various forms. It could be related to a job you dislike, a place you don’t want to live in, or a relationship that no longer serves you. These situations require more significant and long-term changes. However, they all begin with the same fundamental step: pausing, reflecting, and recalibrating.

In times of hardship and challenges, it’s essential to acknowledge the need for change. Whether it’s a minor adjustment or a major life shift, the first step is always the same: a moment of reckoning. Pause, reflect, seek counsel, and recalibrate as needed. Your journey towards a more fulfilling and intentional life begins with this fundamental process.
