Remember the dread of having to spend your entire day inside your office? Watching the hours tick away while wearing the uptight suit that you couldn’t wait to rip off? Remember having set lunch breaks? Or maybe staying way after the sun had already set just wishing you were home snuggling with your little ones?
My guess is you’re not remembering those days fondly.
Whether you’re still living those days or looking ahead towards moving out of them, look ahead with confidence because running your firm successfully (while on the go) is easier than ever before!
It’s probably the one thing we can thank the pandemic for! We’ve learnt more ways on how to show up for our clients outside of the office and companies learnt how to step up to match our needs as well.
If you’re gearing up to start your virtual practice or looking for ways to better run your virtual practice while on the go (hello reopened airports), consider these tips!
Automate Your Systems
Being tied to your computer to send out every email, track every lead, draft up every contract and trigger every action item is time consuming. And if we’re being honest, it cancels out your entire reason for starting your own firm to begin with: freedom! More importantly, time freedom.
Running your firm on the go means removing yourself from the equation as much as possible so that things run without you having to oversee it or click every button. System automation is the way to do this!
With CRM systems such as Clio, MyCase, Smokeball and so much more, you’re able to set up work flows with triggers that keep your business running while you’re running to your gate! And if you take some time to upload important documents that are often utilized within your business (think contracts and proposals), you can design these systems to send these out as soon as you give the proverbial signal!
By automating your systems, you can carve out more time for yourself to enjoy your downtime, engage in quality client engagement or vision cast on what’s ahead!
Set Expectations
Running your firm on the go means you’re not at your desk checking your email every 5 mins…and it’s important you let your clients know that as well! If you’re planning on running things a bit differently then what they can expect from an in-house firm, let them know that; but also let them know that this will change nothing on the quality of work they’ll receive!
And if you do want someone checking emails a bit more often throughout the day, consider hiring some extra help! Virtual Assistants are great assets as you’re able to hire them on as contractors (meaning you’re not on the hook for the typical employer requirements) to get double the work done!
Use Apps
When running a virtual practice (and running your firm on the go), apps are going to be your best friend – so make sure you use them! Some favorites to download on your phone are:
Asana
This is a great project management app that can help you (and your team) keep track of all the tasks currently going on within your business and divide them up based on the client/project! With the capability to assign due dates and certain members of your team to a given project, this will help you rest assured that everything is moving forward smoothly no matter where you are!
Zoom
Need to show up for a last-minute meeting? Kids soccer game running over and you need to hop on? Zoom has an app for your phone that can make you do this from anywhere! With the same capabilities just as if you were on your desktop, prioritizing your client meetings are easier than ever!
HelloSign
Got a lead who’s ready to move forward? Don’t wait to get back to your desk (if you aren’t using a CRM)! Use the HelloSign app to send out documents for signatures with just a few taps of your finger!
You decided to run your virtual practice to have more freedom and by chaining yourself to your at-home desktop…you’re not giving yourself the opportunity to enjoy this milestone! By using these tips you’ll be well on your way to running a successful and sustainable firm while also enjoying your freedom!
