To many, the solopreneur life is risky. Some believe it’s a lot of smoke and mirrors and others believe it’s only reserved for those born rich.
As you may well know by now, I don’t believe either of those things. In fact, I know very differently now. I know that the entrepreneurial life that comes along with running your own solo law firm, is nothing more than a different kind of freedom. One we weren’t taught in school.
In school, and in society, we’re taught to do the safer things. Things we can bank on. Being a lawyer, your “safer thing” would probably be getting a government job. But here’s the thing, I had a government job and, sure, I was able to bet on it. It brought me in a steady paycheck and it was definitely more flexible than a laundry list of other legal jobs I could have been doing but it wasn’t the fit that I wanted for my life.
I was dreaming a little bigger than what I was taught.
I wanted to be my own boss so that I wouldn’t have to ask to go to storytime with my daughter on a random Tuesday morning. So that I could spend two weeks visiting my parents on the East Coast without worrying about getting time off. I wanted the freedom to accompany my husband on work trips overseas without worrying about how we would handle our bills, and I didn’t want to be restricted by a government salary.
I wanted more and as I learned more and more about starting my own online practice, it seemed like that dream was actually achievable!
Years later, I’ve seen it come to fruition in the wildest ways and now I want to share about this possibility with every momma I come across.
Being a solopreneur and running your own solo law firm is a different kind of freedom.
Dream Bigger
The first piece of freedom I tasted with running my own online law firm was the fact that I now had the ability to dream bigger. Within a typical government or corporate job, you usually know the highest level you could achieve within your career ladder. And you also usually have an idea of how long it’ll take you to get there.
With an online practice and running a business within the online space…those limitations are shattered. Here, we can do an endless amount of things and get there tomorrow night, next week, in a year, you name it. It’s up to you how big you want to dream and how fast you want to call it in!
Limitless Potential To Make Money
The next and most alluring piece of freedom I gained by building a solo law firm was the limitless potential I now had to make more money. In fact, as a solopreneur, not only was I now my own boss, but I’m able to make more money than I ever was at my 9-5. In fact, when I resigned after my maternity leave, I paid off my law school loans a full year and a half later.
This is because opening your practice online doesn’t have to be the end of what you do. There are countless ways to grow your practice online but there are also other countless ways to make money online. And as your business grows, you can hire on more help to help you do so.
Unrestricted Freedom
My favorite piece of freedom I gained by becoming an entrepreneur would have to be the unrestricted freedom. Freedom with my time, money, choices – you name it. As my own boss, I can decide if I’m sleeping in late to get extra cuddles with my daughter on a Tuesday morning. I can decide to book a random fancy vacation for my family because my 3 additional streams of revenue are booming and we can now afford to do the things we always wanted. I can turn down working with a client because I got to decide that they just weren’t a good fit for my practice.
Becoming a solopreneur unlocked a different kind of freedom that we don’t get told is out there when going through school but I count my lucky stars that I decided to try it out anyway!
